After discovering the company’s illegal human experimentation programs, he attempted to quit—only to be sabotaged by his corrupt superior, who dosed him with a dangerous drug to keep him compliant. In a desperate attempt to cure himself, Miguel used a gene-splicing machine to overwrite his DNA. The process was tampered with, accidentally rewriting half his genome with spider DNA. Now permanently altered, he became the vigilante known as Spider-Man 2099, battling Alchemax’s oppressive grip on society, corporate super-villains, and interdimensional threats across time.
