Welcome back to the MiocAI documentation series. In our previous guides, we covered how to hammer your character’s prompts and details into shape so they are who they claim to be. Now that you actually have a character, you need to talk to them.

The chat interface is where you will spend the vast majority of your time. It is densely packed with features, toggles, settings, and hidden gestures. If you just mash the keyboard and hit send, you are missing out on 90% of what the platform can do.

This guide is a comprehensive tour of the chat interface. We will cover exactly what every button, panel, and shortcut does so you can actually control your chat experience.

1) The Main Layout

The chat page is divided into three distinct sections: the Sidebar on the left, the Chat Area in the center, and the Settings Panel on the right.

If you are on desktop, you have full control over the visibility of these panels. You will see caret buttons (> or <) on the edges of the screen. Clicking these splitters hides or reveals the Sidebar and Settings panels.

If you enable Immersive Mode in your settings, the UI will automatically fade the Sidebar and Settings panels to 50% opacity whenever you focus on typing in the chat.

For group chats, the center layout also includes a Next Turn Preview at the bottom. This shows you exactly which character is queued to respond next. If you want to force a different character to reply, click the preview to open the Participant Picker dropdown and select the bot you want.

2) The Chat Header

At the top of the center chat area sits the header. This isn't just a title bar; it holds several core functions.

  • Chat Info Area: Clicking the character’s avatar or name opens their dedicated profile modal. If you see a checkmark badge here, that indicates the character is official and verified.
  • Call Button: A phone icon that instantly initiates a voice call with the character.
  • Bug Report: The bug icon opens the issue reporting modal. Use this if something is actually broken.
  • Settings/Sidebar Toggles: Use these to open panels on mobile!

If the AI model is experiencing server-side issues or degraded performance, a Model Status Banner with a warning octagon will drop down from this header to let you know.

3) The Sidebar

The left panel is your hub for moving between different chats. It is divided into two collapsible sections.

Update: In the latest version, the conversations section is no longer collapsible, as there is no purpose to having it be.

Conversations

This lists all your active chats. You can search for specific chats using the search bar, or click the plus button to open the Chat Creation modal.

Each chat item in this list shows the chat name and up to three stacked avatars if it is a group chat. You might also see specific badges on these list items: * Warning Badge: Indicates an issue with the chat. * Lock Badge: Indicates this chat uses Extra Secure Encryption. * Verified Badge: Indicates an official character.

You can click the three-dot options menu on any chat to rename it, delete it, or view the character's profile.

Top Characters

Below your active chats is a collapsible section containing an embedded character browser, allowing you to quickly discover and start new chats without leaving the interface.

4) The Chat Input: Sending Commands and Text

The bottom input area is highly complex. Let's break down exactly what you can type and click.

Slash Commands

Typing / immediately opens a menu of system commands: ╱cmd: Directs the structural flow of the conversation. ╱ooc: Writes text strictly out of character/context. ╱scenarioChange: Automatically alters the current chat scenario (unavailable in group chats). * ╱reset: Deletes and resets the current conversation.

Mentions

Typing @ opens the participant list. You can use your arrow keys and hit Enter or Tab to select a specific character to address in a group setting.

The Options Menu and Style Utilities

Clicking the list icon next to the input opens your options menu. Here, you can access your personal Personas, or open the Style utilities.

Style utilities are direct modifiers for your next message. Selecting one will apply a specific format or tone to your text: * Shorten (Blue): Makes the message concise. * Lengthen (Green): Expands the message with more detail. * Dramaticize (Violet): Adds dramatic flair. * Quote (Yellow): Wraps the text as a quote. * Formalize (Orange): Shifts the text to a formal tone. * Magicalize (Pink): Adds a magical theme.

Sending and Generating

If you want the AI to suggest a message for you to send, click the magic wand icon above the input to use Continue for me. This will only work if you have the option "Show auto reply button" enabled in the settings.

When sending a message in a group chat with multiple bots, you can hover or long-press the Send button to open the Send Override Popover, allowing you to select exactly which bot should read and respond to that specific message. Once a generation starts, the send button becomes a Stop button. Use it to cancel a generation mid-stream.

5) Messages: Interaction and Navigation

Once a message is on the screen, your interaction with it is not over. Every message item has a header with quick-action buttons (pills) and a context menu.

Header Pills

On the latest bot message, you will see a Continue button to force the bot to keep generating text. If you have images enabled, you will see a Generate Image button (which also displays the credits you have). The Regenerate button allows you to roll a completely new response.

Swiping and Version Navigation

If you regenerate a message, the previous versions are not deleted. You will see a version counter (e.g., "2/4"). * Desktop: Click the left and right arrows on the message to navigate versions. * Mobile: Swipe right on the message to go to the previous version, or swipe left to go to the next version (or trigger a new regeneration if you are on the latest version).

The Context Menu

Clicking the three dots on any message (or long-pressing on mobile) opens the context menu. This is where the heavy lifting happens.

  • Edit Message: Modify the content. Free for your own messages; requires a Premium plan to edit bot messages.
  • Pin/Unpin: Pin a message to the AI's permanent context. You are limited to a maximum of 3 pinned messages.
  • Speak: Triggers Text-to-Speech (Shortcut: T).
  • Copy/Save/Delete: Basic management tools. Deleting messages requires Premium.
  • Cut from Here: Removes the selected message and every message after it. Requires Premium.
  • Fork from Here: Creates a new, branched conversation starting from this exact message.

6) The Attachment Section: Images and Video

When an image is generated or attached to a message, it appears in the Attachment Section. This section includes a main display area and a thumbnail grid gallery of all attachments in the current context.

You have direct media controls inside this section. They cost credits: * Upscale: Must be enabled in settings. Costs 3 credits. Enhances the image quality. Processing takes 30-60 seconds, indicated by a progress banner. * Animate (3s): Costs 30 credits. Converts the static image into a 3-second video. Processing takes 1-2 minutes. * Animate (5s): Costs 50 credits. Converts the static image into a 5-second video. Processing takes 1-2 minutes.

7) Chat Settings: Tuning the Engine

The right panel is the Chat Settings panel. This directly influences the behavior of the AI model and the chat environment.

Model and Length Settings: Here you select the specific text model. You can also manually set the message length slider between 1 and 20 sentences, or leave it on Auto (indicated by a magic wand badge) to let the AI decide the appropriate length.

Extra Secure Encryption: Users on the Elite plan or higher can enable two-step message encryption here, locking down the privacy of the specific chat.

Time Awareness and Auto Scenario: You can enable Time Awareness to give the bot a sense of passed time between your replies. The slider allows you to set the threshold anywhere from 4 to 24 hours. The Auto Scenario toggle updates the weather and time tags dynamically.

Image Settings: Toggle Auto Image Generation on or off. You can also open the Image Model Selector here to switch between different models based on whether you want an Anime or Realistic output style.

An image showing all these would be much too long, go and explore it yourself!

8) Memory and Journal Managers

Also located in the settings panel are two crucial systems for long-term consistency.

Memory Manager

Clicking the expand arrows opens the Memory Manager modal. Here, you can manually type out specific facts or events you want the AI to remember permanently. Each memory has an index badge. You can edit or delete them. If you accumulate more than 5 memories, a "Clear All" button appears at the bottom. You can also click "Sync Character Memories" to upload these local chat memories directly to the character's base profile.

Journal Manager

Journal triggers work differently. You assign specific comma-separated keywords to a block of text. When you or the bot use one of those keywords in the chat, the associated text is instantly injected into the AI's context for that specific turn. This is highly effective for lore entries, specific locations, or character triggers.

9) Participant Manager and Character Relations

If you are running a group chat, the settings panel will display the Participant Manager. This allows you to toggle specific characters on or off without deleting the chat, or remove them entirely. You will see status dots indicating whether a participant is an AI or a human user.

Character Relations

For users on Premium plans or higher, you can define explicit relationships between different characters in the chat. Click the plus button to define a link. You must set a type (Friend, Enemy, Lover, Family, Mentor, Rival, Colleague, or Custom), write a description of the relationship, state the duration, and set an Intensity slider from 1 to 10. The AI will strictly adhere to these defined dynamics when characters interact with each other.

10) Summary of Plan Requirements

Some features in the UI are locked based on your subscription tier. To keep things transparent, here is exactly what requires a paid plan:

Premium Plan Minimum: * Editing Bot Messages * Deleting Messages * Cutting Messages from a specific point * Using the Character Relationships system * Using the AI Reasoning mode

Elite Plan Minimum: * Extra Secure Encryption toggle * Automated Update Scenario generations

TLDR

  • Panels: Sidebar for navigation, Center for chatting, Settings for AI control. Use splitters to hide them.
  • Inputs: Use / for system commands, @ for mentions, and the options menu for stylistic text changes.
  • Messages: Swipe or use arrows to navigate regenerated versions. Use the context menu to pin, edit, or branch the conversation.
  • Images: Upgrades cost credits. Upscaling is 3 credits; video animation is 30 or 50 credits depending on length.
  • Settings: Use the Memory Manager for permanent facts and the Journal Manager for keyword-triggered lore.
  • Limits: Editing bot messages, deleting text, and setting character relations require a Premium plan.

Learn the UI. Use the shortcuts. Don't complain that the bot forgot something if you aren't using the memory manager, and don't complain about chat clutter if you aren't utilizing branches and message deletion.
