While 1-on-1 chats are great and all, sometimes you want to act out.. A game of DND for instance? Now, instead of making a character that represents multiple characters at once, which I highly discourage, MiocAI lets you create Group-Chats as a Feature.
First, open the chat. in the "conversations" section, above all your chats, there is a "New chat" Button. Press it, and you'll be on track!
When you first open the creation menu by clicking the plus icon in your sidebar, you are presented with a choice between Single Character and Group Chat.
By default, the system selects Single Character. To start a group, you must click the Group Chat button. This shifts the logic of the modal. In a single chat, the system expects one bot. In a group chat, the system UI unlocks multi-selection and enforces a minimum of two characters. You cannot start a group chat with only one bot.
Once you select the group mode, a Chat Name field appears. While this is technically optional, you should never leave it blank.
If you leave the name empty, the sidebar will simply show a list of the characters' names. If you are running three different groups with the same characters, your sidebar will become impossible to navigate. Use this field to give the conversation a title like "The Tavern Brawl" or "Council Meeting" so you can identify it at a glance later.
The core of the process is the character selection grid. Clicking Add Character opens the character browser.
In Group Chat mode, the browser allows for multi-select. You can click several characters and confirm them all at once. As you add them, they will appear in a list within the modal. Each entry shows their avatar and a short description.
If you change your mind, you can click the X on a character's card to remove them before the chat is ever created. Remember that the "Start Chat" button will remain disabled until you have at least two bots in this list.
Before you launch the chat, you need to decide how the underlying engine will handle the simulation. Three toggles appear under the settings header:
A piece that becomes relevant only after participants are selected.
Imagine this as the “Opening Crawl” of a movie. Since you’re starting a fresh chat, the bots lack context. They’re unaware of their location or the reason for their presence.
A well-defined scenario should include: * The Location: Where is the group? * The Reason: Why are they engaged in conversation? * The Immediate Action: What’s happening right now?
Not to say that a groupchat without a scenario wont produce interesting and unique exchanges, but theres substantial perks to self-defining the scenario.
Once you have your characters picked, your name set, and your scenario written, click Start Chat.
At this point, the backend takes all your disparate selections and hammers them into a single chat file. It assigns the group name, establishes the initial environment tags, and sets the first character in the "Next Turn" queue. You will be automatically redirected to the new chat, and you can send your first message to kick off the story.
